My life was greatly influenced by the book Pjotr by Jan Terlouw. Great, the adventures of that Russian boy who traveled alone through that enormous country, looking for his father. I felt like I was traveling with Pjotr. Because of Pjotr I started studying Russian.
And that’s how, years later
I found myself working for a multinational veterinary pharmaceutical company, standing on Red Square in Moscow, flying in a helicopter over the volcanoes in Kamchatka, and drinking countless glasses of vodka with my Russian team. Things can change.
A good story starts revolutions and wins elections
Storytelling is not new. We have been telling each other stories for centuries. We learn with stories and we tell each other what we expect from each other. Think of the fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood and the wolf. The message? Girl, behave. Don’t let anyone touch the things in your basket and stay on the path that is meant for you.
Now we tell our stories on TikTok, Instagram and LinkedIn. There we see what is hip & happening and which trends we really should not miss . And that is where it often goes wrong. Fake news , gaslighting and scaremongering. Not only influencers, but also our ladies and gentlemen politicians and lobbyists happily participate in it. Stories are told with an ulterior motive (editor’s note: ulterior motive), which may not be (completely) true, but are effective.
